Since we’re beginning a new year, it’s the perfect time to review January’s monthly checklist. January is preventative maintenance month! It’s a great time to tackle those tasks you often neglect.
PREVENTING PLUMBING PROBLEMS
Clean your drains. You can do it easily by picking up a drain stick at your local dollar store. Because of the barbs on it, when you stick it down and pull it out, it’ll pull out all the gunk that accumulated over the last year. Once you do that, pour a cup of bleach down the drain, give it a few minutes, then turn on the hot water to flush it all down. Now go to each water supply in the house and turn off and on all of the valves, including the main water supply to the house. Doing this will prevent the valves from ceasing.
CLEAN AIR AND WATER
Replace or clean neglected filters. For example your humidifier, the vacuum, and if you have an ice or water dispenser in your refrigerator. Dirty filters cause undue stress on the device and it can affect your health too.
SPICK ‘N SPAN
There’s no better time than a New Year to get your home cleaned and organized. Spend a day purging, donating and organizing a couple of rooms in the house.
