August’s Home Maintenance Checklist

This is the August Home Maintenance Checklist – We’re about halfway through the summer. Here are some great tips to take advantage of!

LAWN CARE

The first thing to take care of within the month of August is your lawn. You may notice your grass turning brown with excessive heat and dry weather. If this is the case, you should give it a weekly watering and the best time to do that is early in the morning. Don’t be discouraged if your lawn is turning brown. It will bounce back come September when it cools down a bit and we get more rain.

Another thing to keep in mind when cutting your grass is to leave it nice and long (anywhere between 3 and 3.5 inches) because when you have short grass, excessive sun and heat are NOT a good match for your lawn.  You’ll also find that once you get your lawn to be long and thick, weeds are a thing of the past!

 GARAGE SALE

The next thing you should do this month has a garage sale. It’s a great time to get rid of all that excess stuff around the house and make sure that you have room for all of your lawn equipment and furniture in the fall. It’s also a great way to make a few extra bucks!

PRESSURE WASHING

Rent or remove your power washer to wash your deck and patio stones. Over the course of the year, you may find the buildup of moss. Moss holds moisture and, if left untreated, will cause damage to the surface it’s on. So, get your power washer, clean it out, and allow it to dry in the nice warm weather.

 IN-STORE SALES

And lastly, because we’re at the halfway point of summer, many stores have great sales on things like power washers, lawn equipment, furniture, and barbecues. So, keep your eyes open for some great deals, and now that you’ve made room from that garage sale, you’ll have somewhere to store them for next summer!
